Question:
I have jowls, at least I think these are jowls. I can grab almost a handful of skin down at my jawline. Can this be taken care of with a lift? If so, is this surgery done under general anesthesia? What takes place during the surgery
Answer:
Typically patients who have some early jowling may benefit sufficiently from what we refer to as a weekend facelift. The weekend facelift is a mini-facelift that helps move the jowls, tighten up the skin in the deeper tissue, and leave the patient with a much stronger jawline. As age advances and the jowls become more prominent, it is often important to do a more significant lift that involves the neckline and liposuction under the jawline. Both of these procedures are done with local anesthesia and a twilight anesthesia that is very similar to the type of anesthesia one might have when undergoing a colonoscopy. The anesthesia is given intravenously while the patient is monitored and it is done as an outpatient.
