Question:
I’ve heard ear surgery is often performed on children. I wish I’d had it as a kid because I was always teased and called Dumbo. I’m an adult now and my ears still bother me. Is it possible to have surgery now?
Answer:
The answer is yes. Typically the main reason we usually perform this surgery at four-five years of age is because that is the time it is acceptable to do this before the child enters school. However, in an adult, it can be performed at any time under local anesthesia with a twilight anesthesia as an outpatient. The recovery is about one week and is very well tolerated.
