Question:

I am overweight by approximately 30 pounds. I would like to get a breast reduction, but do I need to lose weight first?

Answer:

If your goal is to lose 25-30 pounds, it is always best to achieve the weight loss before undergoing a breast reduction procedure. There are many reasons for this. First of all, losing the weight first would increase your chances of getting the procedure authorized by your insurance company. Second, from a purely cosmetic point of view, the overall results will be better if the weight is lost first. Also, imagine if a procedure is done such as a breast reduction and the patient were to lose 30 or 40 pounds after the surgery, the results could significantly be affected.
