Question:

Is dermaplaning different from dermabrasion?

Answer:

Yes.  Dermaplaning is typically when an esthetician will use a scalpel to gently scrape the upper layers of the skin.  This has minimal downtime and minimal redness and typically several treatments are used.  Dermabrasion is much more aggressive and is typically a surgical procedure performed under anesthesia.  However, micro-dermabrasion is not truly dermabrasion but uses a suction device with crystals to help remove the top layers of skin.  Both dermaplaning and micro-dermabrasion are typically done by estheticians whereas plastic surgeons are more likely to do dermabrasion.
