I keep hearing the term breast reconstruction and have no idea what it means. Could you please tell me what it means to get this type of surgery?
Answer:
A breast reconstruction can mean many things. Typically it is used when describing techniques to recreate a breast after a patient has had a mastectomy for breast cancer. However, there are other reasons to do breast reconstruction such as breast deformities, congenital deformities, breast asymmetries, patient’s who had complications or problems following breast augmentation or cosmetic surgery. All of these things can be considered reconstructive procedures.
