What is the Average Age of a Facelift Patient?

Schedule a Consultation

Facelift surgery is a plastic surgery procedure designed to reverse the signs of aging on the face and neck.

A common question that is often asked about facelift surgery is the average age of patients who undergo it. In my experience, around 48 to 75 years old is the average age. Of course, if a patient is on the younger side, there are separate procedures that can be done such as a chin augmentation, deep neck lift, or liposuction.

While every patient is different, many people start to notice signs of facial aging such as sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and the loss of facial volume in their 40s and 50s. However, the landscape of facelift patients has evolved considerably.

In recent years, patients in their 30s and 40s have been undergoing less-invasive options to address early signs of aging.

In this article, we’ll be diving into the different types of facelift surgery and how to know if you’re an ideal candidate for each type.

Deep Plane Facelift: The Ultimate Transformation For Long-Lasting Results

The deep plane facelift is a comprehensive surgical procedure that targets both the superficial and deep facial tissues. This technique provides the most significant results that last decades. A deep plane facelift achieves tighter skin, defines the facial features, and reduces elasticity in the neck and jawline. It also restores the cheek area back to its original position and improves the hollowness in the lower eyelid.

Ideal Candidates for Deep Plane Facelift

You may be wondering if you are a good candidate for facial rejuvenation cosmetic surgery, and which facelift is right for you.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach, but there are several characteristics of good candidates. Here are a few:

  • Individuals who are in their late 40s to 80 years of age, who want to reduce the signs of facial aging
  • Patients with advanced signs of aging in their face, neck, and jaw
  • Clients with hollowness beneath the eyes or heaviness below the cheeks
  • Individuals with concerns of saggy neck skin
  • Individuals who want improvement in their jaw line
  • Individuals who are not at an increased risk for complications and are in good physical health

Finally, all prospective clients must have realistic expectations about the procedure and understand that it will not stop the aging process altogether, but rather eliminate sagging skin and reduce the visible signs of aging.

Weekend Facelift: A Quick Refresher with Minimal Downtime

The weekend facelift is a common cosmetic surgical procedure regularly referred to as a mini facelift or “S” lift. This procedure is generally meant for patients under 40 and is primarily designed to assist in the correction of any wrinkles and sagging that exist around the lower portion of the face.

This lift addresses the jaw line and the lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin. These lines (folds) are often referred to as marionette lines. In general, this procedure is meant to provide patients with a more youthful appearance and an increase in confidence.

As people age, wrinkles and sagging skin become increasingly common. A weekend facelift tightens the face and ensures that definition is properly restored. The weekend facelift does not address sagging neck skin or tissue. For patients who want a tighter, more youthful-looking neck, consider a deep plane facelift.

Ideal Candidates for Weekend Facelift

Candidates for the weekend facelift typically have early signs of aging and are looking for a quick recovery time. Here are a few characteristics of a good candidate for a weekend facelift:

  • Patients in their mid 30s to late 40s
  • Patients with early signs of aging
  • Individuals looking for a quick recovery time
  • Individuals looking for a less-invasive rejuvenation procedure
  • Individuals with marionette lines and wrinkles/sagging in the lower third of their face
  • Patients looking for natural-looking results

How to Determine Which Facelift is Right for You

In determining which facelift or facial rejuvenation procedure is right for you, it’s important to understand your own goals and expectations. During the consultation process, we will thoroughly explain your options and how to achieve your desired results.

Younger patients may choose to undergo less invasive procedures or treatments such as fillers as a more preventative measure.

Alternatives to Facelift Surgery

There are many facial procedures that serve as alternatives to facelift surgery. These are great options for individuals who may not want or need surgical intervention.

Here are a few:

  • Botox and Dysport Injections: Botox and Dysport are injections that temporarily relax specific facial muscles, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly in areas like the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), and crow’s feet.
  • Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid-based Juvederm and Restylane, are injectable substances used to restore volume, smooth out lines, and enhance facial contours.
  • Chemical Peels: Chemical peels involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which exfoliates and encourages the growth of new, healthier skin. They can improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, and address issues like uneven pigmentation.
  • Laser Skin Resurfacing: Laser treatments, such as fractional laser and CO2 laser, use focused light to remove damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen production. They can improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, and even out skin tone.

These facial rejuvenation procedures offer non-surgical alternatives to a facelift, allowing individuals to address specific concerns and achieve a more youthful appearance without the need for invasive surgery and extensive recovery time.
