Question:
I am 19 from Albany, New York, and I am interested in breast implants. My mother wants me to wait because she thinks my breasts are still changing. What is the best time to get implants?
Answer:
We would typically wait until a patient has finished her development after puberty before getting implants. So being 18 or 19, while still young, is okay to get breast implants. The one thing that the FDA is currently recommending is that anyone younger than 22 years old cannot get silicone implants. Therefore, younger patients still need to get saline implants and these have excellent results as far as shape and outcomes. Anyone older than 22 can get silicone implants whether they are the traditional cohesive gel implants or the new formed stable highly cohesive gel implants.
